What Is This Workshop?

This is a full-day, hands-on studio lighting intensive where you will work alongside professional models, makeup artists, stylists, and a full production team. learning studio lighting the way it's actually done in the industry.

Led by Saeid Kaveh, portrait and fashion photographer with over 20 years of experience, editorial credits in The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, and active collaborations with LA Models and Photogenics. This workshop is built around one belief: you learn lighting by doing it, not by watching it.

Whether you shoot portraits, fashion, headshots, family, pets, or any other subject in a studio, the skills you'll leave with will change the way you see, think, and work.

Saeid Kaveh

Hi, I'm Saeid Kaveh, an award-winning portrait and editorial photographer based in Los Angeles, California. I specialize in creating distinctive portraits with a cinematic approach, combining creative lighting, thoughtful composition, and visual storytelling to produce timeless, impactful images.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of photographing celebrities, entrepreneurs, CEOs, coaches, artists, and public figures, along with countless clients who wanted portraits that truly represent who they are. My work has been featured in publications including The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Variety, and many others.

I'm fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team of talented makeup artists and stylists who help bring each creative vision to life. Together, we focus on every detail from the initial concept and mood board to the final image to create an enjoyable, stress-free experience and portraits you'll be proud of for years to come. Every session is tailored specifically to you: your story, your audience, and the impression you want to leave on the world.

Photography, for me, has always been about connection and that doesn't stop when the session ends. I share behind-the-scenes moments, new work, and creative inspiration regularly on Instagram and LinkedIn. If you'd like a closer look at my process and the stories behind the images, I'd love for you to follow along.

I look forward to creating something extraordinary with you.

A Full Day of Professional Studio Lighting — From Vision to Final Frame

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Here's everything we'll cover in the workshop:

The Art of Photography & Developing Your Vision

Lighting is a tool. Your vision is what drives it. We start the day by talking about what it really means to develop a photographic identity: how to think differently, how to build a signature style, and how to stand out in a crowded market. We'll cover composition, color, and how to collaborate with makeup artists, stylists, art directors, and set designers to create images that tell a story. You'll also learn how to present yourself to photo directors, agency curators, and industry networks and how to turn your creative power into real income, whatever genre you shoot.

Studio Lighting Essential Concepts

A solid foundation before we touch a single light. We cover exposure essentials, studio basics, metering, and how to take full control of your environment. You'll learn how to work with modeling lights and speedlights, and get a complete breakdown of the gear inside a professional studio: strobes, speedlights, modifiers, stands, backdrops, and all the accessories that make a real difference.

Light Physics & the Inverse Square Law

Understanding how light actually behaves is what separates photographers who struggle from photographers who solve problems quickly and confidently. We break down the inverse square law and what it means for your work in practice. We'll cover what "shape of light" really means, how to read and control shadow density, how to pull any color from a plain gray background, and tethering essentials to keep your workflow sharp.

Quality, Direction & Modifiers

What makes light harsh or soft and how do you control it? We go deep into light quality, light direction, and the difference between broad and short lighting. You'll learn how the height of your light changes everything, and we'll do a thorough breakdown of modifiers: what each one does, when to use it, and how to choose the right one for any situation. We'll also cover V-Flats and how to build your own DIY tools like scrims and soft boxes so budget never limits your creativity.

Purpose of Light & Mastering Shadows

Shadows are not problems to eliminate. they are one of the most powerful storytelling tools you have. We'll cover how to use shadows intentionally to add depth, mood, and emotion to your images. We'll walk through clamshell lighting for beauty photography, lighting ratios, and how feathering the light gives you precise, repeatable control over your output.

One-Light Mastery

Some of the most powerful images ever made were lit with a single source. We'll explore essential one-light setups and show you exactly how much is possible when you truly understand what one light can do. You'll also learn how grids and flags let you sculpt and contain light with precision and use them creatively.

Small Space Studio Considerations

Not everyone has a massive studio. We'll cover everything you need to know about shooting in tighter spaces: how to think about gear selection, what to prioritize, what to avoid, and how to make smart decisions that give you great results regardless of the size of your space.

Training Your Eye & Troubleshooting

Good lighting and bad lighting. Can you always tell the difference? We'll sharpen your ability to read light critically and walk through the most common studio lighting problems photographers run into, with clear solutions for each one.

Gels & Creative Color

Gels are one of the most versatile and underused tools in studio photography. We'll cover how to use gels to color your lights and explore the multiple roles a gel can play in a single image as a rim light, a fill light, or a background light and how combining these creatively opens up a whole new dimension in your work.

Live Shoots with Professional Models

Everything comes together here. Throughout the day, we'll run multiple live lighting setups with professional models and a full production team. Makeup artists, stylists, and more. You'll watch professional lighting built from scratch, understand every decision being made, and see the images come to life in real time. This is where all the knowledge you've gained becomes something you can actually feel and see. and take back to your own work.
